Presenting GW's Equines
GW's boyhood memories include riding a Tennessee Walking Horse mare named Old Bert. She was owned collectively by his father, two uncles, and grandfather as part of their family-run farm. His love for the simple life made it inevitable that one day he would have his own equines. A pony had been enough for his young sons, but as they grew older, it became time for GW to have an equine of his own. He started with a pair of Belgian-cross draft mules, Lisa and Belle. GW enjoyed the mules, but in his heart was the desire to own the smooth-riding saddle horses of his youth. Eldest son, Stanley Ward Partin, worked as a groom and stable hand at a Spotted Saddle Horse training barn. The owners had a mare for sale... one of those "too good to be true" kind of mares for sale... only this one turned out to be as good as she was presented... even more so! "Little Sister," as GW calls her, is a big-framed, 16-hand solid black Tennessee Walking Horse mare. She had been bought solely as a broodmare. She was soon offered for sale because she was unable to get in foal. The good Lord was smiling down on GW. It was as if the mare had been born just for his enjoyment. Not only does she have good conformation, she also has a ground-covering, hard-driving, head-shaking, true four-beat Running Walk! GW had been bitten by the trail riding bug and it didn't take him long to decide there wasn't enough time for mules and horses. He'd gotten the mules out of his system (as he puts it) so he sold mules, wagon, and harness. Now, he is into raising and training his own naturally-gaited Tennessee Walking Horses... Oh, I almost forgot to mention that since GW acquired her, "Little Sister" has produced three healthy foals!
